Start your day with house-made breakfast, coffee, tea and juice in the Gable House dining room. You can also enjoy your morning coffee with a book in the many quiet spaces around the Gable House.
After breakfast, take a romantic stroll down the Animas River Trail or on the Rim Trail around the edge of the mesa at Fort Lewis College to take in views of the surrounding mountains and the river. After your hike enjoy a casual lunch downtown at Fired Up Pizzeria for incredible wood fired pizzas and salads, or check out Switchback. One of the best things about staying at the Gable House is that you are only a few blocks from Main Avenue in downtown Durango featuring an assortment of restaurants, shops and entertainment.
For the afternoon we suggest heading North on Highway 550 to the mountains in the San Juan National Forest and enjoy a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride at Bear’s Ranch with blankets, cocoa, and outdoor fires. The owners and staff at Bear’s Ranch are incredibly friendly and passionate about hospitality and horses. Bear’s Ranch is only a 25 minute drive from the Gable House, and a horse-drawn sleigh ride in the snow is one of the most romantic things you can do in Durango.
On the way back to the Gable House enjoy a couples massage and soak at the Durango Hot springs so you are relaxed when you get back to our unique hotel. The Durango Hot Springs features more than 40 unique pools, all with different temperatures. There’s even an “adults only” section so you don’t have to worry about kids doing cannon balls while you are relaxing in the hot springs.
After you get ready for a night on the town in one of our magnificent bathrooms (some with clawfoot tubs) head downtown for dinner at El Moro Spirits and Tavern, 636 Main Ave, or Oye Oysters and Small Plates. All three of these restaurants have fabulous food and drinks, and they are all a very short walk from the Gable House.
After your night on the town, return to the most unique lodging in Durango and relax by the firepit in the garden, on the couches in the common areas, or on one of the several balconies or private porches with blankets we have available.
